Nordic Design – Have Your Piece

Scandinavian happiness

Imagine a lazy summer morning. Waking up in a comfy bed, that has a stunning, rustic panel headboard.
You slowly get up and put on your cozy morning gown and slippers. You draw the airy, light grey curtains and open the window. You can feel the fresh breeze on your face as you say hello to the rising sun and the birds singing outside.

You make your way to the kitchen and serve yourself a nice coffee from your favorite pottery mug you found from the flea market few years ago. You sit down on one of the white painted chairs that surround the light brown, wooden retro table. You look at your gorgeous home you have put time and effort in. The timeless glass table in the living room, the streamlined, classic looking sofa, and the natural white carpets on the wooden floor.

You get lost in the piece of art on the wall. It is the black and white map poster of the city you have spent several holidays in. Is it Milan? Is it Barcelona? Is it Helsinki? You tell me.

You do not mind staying home now. You feel happy there. You have decorated the place to your liking and added the finishing touches by making your memories art. Just breathe in and enjoy.

How to bring the essence of Nordic design into your home

The home of the previous imaginary trip was an example of an apartment with Nordic interior design.
Nordic design is all about wood, glass, lightness, natural colors, and simple style.

You can collect the furniture, light fixtures and decoration pieces of famous Nordic designers like Aalto,
Grossman or Rison from the design shops or search for second hand treasures on the internet selling sites.
You can gather streamlined vintage pieces of furniture that have seen their best days and tune them into Nordic style design with some pure-colored paint.

Cover your sofa cushions with nice natural fabrics. Change your curtains to airier ones and let the natural light in. Remember to keep it simple, minimalistic and pure. Use natural materials and glass. Prefer light colors and black and white. Add a little warmth and some personal touches that stand out.

And there you have it: Nordic interior design.
Or if you have a different kind of interior design philosophy, you can still add some Nordic design to compliment it. It works in smaller doses as well.

Nordic design must be a big part of Scandinavian happiness that is a phenomenon known worldwide. At least we think so.
